Urgent Plumbing Repairs

GASMART South West can provide assistance with any emergency plumbing or heating situation from water leaks and burst pipes, to repairing radiators, toilets and broken down boilers.

What causes burst pipes and leaks?

The most common causes of burst or leaking pipes are:

  • Water pressure
If a pipe, toilet or water pump in your home becomes clogged, it can increase the water pressure. This makes the pipes expand and crack or burst. If you think there’s a blockage anywhere in your water system get in touch and we can investigate and track down the issue before it causes more damage.
  • Cold Weather
When pipes freeze, the water in them expands as it turns to ice. This can lead to cracks or bursts in your pipework which may only become apparent once the temperature rises and the ice melts. To avoid this type of leak we recommend ensuring pipes exposed to the cold are well insulated, or even switching off the water supply to outside taps during the winter.

How to spot a leak?

Leaking pipes aren’t always obvious but can cause hidden damage and increase your bills so it is important to keep an eye out for tell tale signs that can identify a problem sooner rather than later.

  • Take regular water meter readings. This makes it easier to spot an increase in your usage, which might be down to a leak.
  • Look out for lower water pressure or flow from your taps.
  • Take note of waterlogged areas in your garden. These could be a sign of a leak.
  • Get us to check any noisy pipework, as it could mean there’s a leak.
  • A toilet cistern may be constantly filling
  • Damp or mildew in certain areas of the home

Our emergency plumbing and heating services include power flushing, boiler repairs, boiler replacements and leak detection as well as replacing valves, stop cocks or other parts.
